Hdj1

Hdj1 is a gene that encodes a protein belonging to the heat shock protein 40 (HSP40) family. This protein, also known as Hsp40 homologue, DnaJ-like 1, is a molecular chaperone. Molecular chaperones are a group of proteins that assist in the proper folding and unfolding of other proteins, as well as in the assembly and disassembly of protein complexes. They play crucial roles in maintaining cellular homeostasis by preventing protein aggregation and misfolding, which can lead to cellular dysfunction and disease.

While its precise roles in these diseases are still being investigated, Hdj1 is thought to play a protective function by assisting in the clearance of toxic protein aggregates.
