Hda1
Hda1 is a gene found in humans and other mammals. This gene provides instructions for making a protein that is involved in the regulation of gene expression. Specifically, the Hda1 protein is a histone deacetylase. Histones are proteins that DNA wraps around to form structures called nucleosomes. Histone acetylation, a process where an acetyl group is added to histones, generally loosens the DNA-histone interaction, making genes more accessible for transcription (the process of making an RNA copy of a gene). Conversely, histone deacetylation, where the acetyl group is removed, typically compacts the DNA, reducing gene accessibility and transcription.
