HarvesterNavistar was a major American manufacturer of heavy-duty trucks, primarily known for its commercial and industrial vehicles. The company emerged from the merger of two prominent truck manufacturers: International Harvester and Navistar International Transportation Corporation. International Harvester, originally founded in 1860 as the McCormick Harvesting Machine Company, became a leading producer of agricultural machinery before expanding into trucks and buses in the early 20th century. Navistar, formed in 1986 through the merger of White Motor Company and Kenworth, specialized in heavy-duty trucks and diesel engines.

The merger between International Harvester and Navistar was finalized in 1990, creating HarvesterNavistar. The new company aimed to consolidate its strengths in both agricultural and commercial vehicle manufacturing. However, the combined entity faced financial challenges and operational complexities, leading to restructuring efforts. In 1999, HarvesterNavistar was acquired by a private equity firm, Cerberus Capital Management, which later reorganized the company under the Navistar International name in 2000. This transition marked the end of the HarvesterNavistar brand as a standalone entity.

During its existence, HarvesterNavistar produced a range of vehicles, including medium- and heavy-duty trucks, school buses, and specialized commercial vehicles. The company was also involved in manufacturing diesel engines and other industrial equipment. Despite its relatively short lifespan, HarvesterNavistar played a significant role in the trucking industry, contributing to advancements in commercial vehicle technology and manufacturing practices. Today, Navistar continues to operate as a major player in the heavy-duty truck market, maintaining many of the innovations and legacy systems developed during the HarvesterNavistar era.
