Handelsliberalisierung refers to the process of reducing or eliminating barriers to international trade. These barriers can take various forms, including tariffs, quotas, subsidies, and non-tariff measures such as complex regulations and standards. The primary goal of handelsliberalisierung is to promote free trade, allowing goods and services to flow more freely across national borders.

Proponents of handelsliberalisierung argue that it leads to several economic benefits. By reducing tariffs and other trade restrictions, countries can specialize in producing goods and services where they have a comparative advantage, leading to increased efficiency and lower prices for consumers. It can also foster greater competition, encouraging domestic firms to become more innovative and productive.
