Hammaspyöräpumput

Hammaspyöräpumput, often translated as gear pumps, are a type of positive displacement pump used to transfer fluids. They operate by using two meshing gears to draw fluid into the pump and then trap it between the gear teeth and the pump casing. As the gears rotate, they carry the trapped fluid from the inlet to the outlet port, where it is discharged under pressure.

There are two main types of gear pumps: external and internal. External gear pumps consist of two identical external gears that rotate in opposite directions. Fluid enters the space between the gears and the casing, is carried around the periphery, and then expelled at the outlet. Internal gear pumps have one gear rotating inside a larger internal gear. The meshing of these gears creates chambers that trap and move the fluid.

Gear pumps are known for their simple design, robust construction, and ability to handle a wide range of viscosities. They are commonly used in hydraulic systems, lubrication systems, fuel transfer, and various industrial processes. Their positive displacement nature ensures a consistent flow rate, regardless of the discharge pressure, making them suitable for applications requiring precise metering. However, they are generally not suitable for abrasive fluids as the close tolerances between the gears and casing can lead to wear.
