Halulle

Halulle is a constructed language created for the fictional Halull archipelago. It is spoken by the Halull people, a seafaring culture in the northern seas. In the stories, Halulle functions as the primary medium for daily conversation, ceremonial speech, and navigation lore.

Linguistic features: Halulle is agglutinative with subject–object–verb order. It uses suffixes to mark tense, aspect, mood, and evidentiality, and postpositions instead of prepositions. The phoneme inventory includes five vowels and about 20 consonants; syllables are typically CV or CVC, with occasional CC clusters.

Writing and dialects: The standard writing system is Latin-based with diacritics for vowel length and tone. In-universe, older texts are recorded in a ceremonial script called halu-script. There are regional dialects corresponding to the major islands; differences are primarily lexical and phonetic, with mutual intelligibility generally high.

In fiction, Halulle is used to convey cultural identity and is studied by characters exploring heritage and law. It has appeared in companion volumes and is sometimes presented with sample phrases and translation notes.
