Halosilmiöt

Halosilmiöt, also known as halo phenomena, are optical and meteorological phenomena that consist of rings, arcs, or spots of light that appear around the sun or moon. These phenomena are caused by the refraction, reflection, or dispersion of light in ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere at high altitudes. The most common types of halos are 22-degree halos, which appear as a bright ring around the sun or moon, and sun dogs or parhelia, which are bright spots that appear at 22 degrees to the left or right of the sun.

Other types of halos include circumzenithal arcs, which appear as a bright arc above the sun, and circumhorizontal arcs, which appear as a bright red arc below the sun. Halos can also be caused by the reflection of light off of ice crystals in high-altitude clouds, such as cirrostratus or cirrus clouds. These phenomena are often associated with weather changes and can be used as indicators of atmospheric conditions.

Halos are a fascinating and beautiful natural phenomenon that can be observed in many parts of the world.
