HVDChálózatok refers to High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) networks or grids. These are systems used for transmitting large amounts of electrical power over long distances using direct current (DC) instead of alternating current (AC). The primary advantage of HVDC transmission is its lower energy loss compared to AC over extended distances. This is due to several factors, including the absence of reactive power losses and reduced corona losses.

HVDC technology is particularly useful for connecting asynchronous AC grids, such as those operating at different frequencies, or for transmitting power from remote renewable energy sources like offshore wind farms to the mainland grid. It is also employed in undersea cable connections, where AC transmission becomes impractical due to capacitive effects. The conversion from AC to DC is performed at converter stations at the sending end, and then back from DC to AC at the receiving end. Modern HVDC systems utilize advanced semiconductor-based converters, such as Voltage Source Converters (VSCs), which offer greater flexibility and control compared to older Line Commutated Converters (LCCs). The development of HVDC technology continues to be a key area in the evolution of modern power transmission, facilitating greater grid stability and the integration of diverse energy sources.
