HRään

HRään is a fictional language and cultural concept used in speculative fiction, role-playing games, and conlang communities. It was developed by a collective of writers and linguists associated with the HRään Project, with public descriptions appearing in online zines and forums during the 2010s. In its world-building context, HRään is described as the language of a coastal, seafaring people.

Linguistically, HRään is presented as an agglutinative language with a rich system of affixes. Nouns inflect for number and six grammatical cases, while verbs convey tense, aspect, mood, and evidentiality through a series of suffixes and infixes. The phonology emphasizes vowel length contrasts and a modest consonant inventory that includes palatalized consonants and a uvular stop.

Written HRään uses a script sometimes called HRäänica, which combines Latin-based characters with diacritics and a small set of runic-inspired glyphs. The orthography is designed to be mostly phonemic, with consistent mapping from sounds to symbols. A simplified Latin transcription is commonly used in learner materials.

Usage and reception: HRään has been employed in world-building for novels, games, and fan-created content.
