HEPAgrade

HEPAgrade is a term used in the filtration industry to describe products that are positioned as high-grade HEPA filtration. It is not a universally standardized label, but a marketing and product designation used by various manufacturers for filters designed to achieve very high particulate removal. In most contexts, HEPAgrade products aim to meet or exceed the standard HEPA performance of capturing 99.97% of 0.3-micron particles, with some brands advertising higher efficiency in line with European classifications such as H13 or H14.

Because “HEPAgrade” is not a formal certification, its meaning can vary by manufacturer. Consumers should consult the product datasheet and test reports to confirm actual performance, including the media type, seal integrity, and whether the filter is leak-tested. True HEPA performance is typically achieved with pleated media made from glass fiber or high-efficiency synthetic fibers, mounted in a rigid frame with a gasket to prevent bypass.

Common applications for HEPAgrade products include household air purifiers, vacuum cleaners, commercial HVAC systems, cleanrooms, laboratories, and medical devices. They are valued for reducing airborne particulate matter, allergens, and some biological contaminants, though higher efficiency often comes with greater pressure drop and cost.

Verification and standards vary by region. In general, HEPA refers to filters meeting at least 99.97% efficiency for 0.3 µm particles, with EN 1822 (and ISO/TC 209) providing formal classifications such as H13 and H14 in Europe. When evaluating a HEPAgrade product, check independent testing, certification, and the precise efficiency rating to ensure it meets the intended use.
