HDMIDisplayPort

HDMIDisplayPort is not a formal standard. The term is sometimes used to describe devices, configurations, or product lines that provide or connect to both HDMI and DisplayPort interfaces, or that bridge between the two. In practice it appears on graphics cards, docking stations, monitors, and consumer electronics that offer multiple display outputs.

HDMI and DisplayPort are digital video interfaces with different design goals. HDMI focuses on broad consumer electronics support, audio return, and content protection, while DisplayPort emphasizes computer-grade video, higher bandwidth in newer revisions, and features such as multi-stream transport that enables multi-monitor daisy-chaining. Each standard has multiple versions that increase maximum resolution and refresh rate.

Bridging and adapters: DisplayPort ports can operate in dual-mode DP (DP++), allowing passive adapters to output HDMI, DVI, or VGA signals. Conversely, converting HDMI to DisplayPort typically requires an active converter. USB-C with DisplayPort alternate mode can carry either signal, and many docks offer both HDMI and DisplayPort outputs to accommodate different displays.

Some features, such as HDR or certain audio formats, may have limitations based on version numbers and bandwidth.
