Höyrynerotus

Höyrynerotus is a Finnish term that translates to "steam separation" or "steam stripping" in English. It refers to a process used in chemical engineering and industrial applications to remove volatile components from a liquid mixture by using steam. The principle behind this technique is that the volatile components will vaporize more readily in the presence of steam, and this vapor mixture can then be separated from the less volatile liquid.

In a typical höyrynerotus process, steam is introduced into the bottom of a distillation column or a specially designed stripping column. The liquid mixture to be treated flows down the column, coming into contact with the rising steam. The heat from the steam and the partial pressure effect facilitate the vaporization of the more volatile components. These vapors rise to the top of the column, where they are condensed and collected, leaving the less volatile components behind in the liquid phase.

Höyrynerotus is commonly employed for a variety of purposes. It is effective in removing dissolved gases or low-boiling point organic compounds from water, such as in the purification of industrial wastewater or the removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from process streams. It can also be used to recover valuable volatile products from reaction mixtures or to purify solvents. The efficiency of the process depends on factors such as the steam flow rate, the temperature and pressure within the column, and the relative volatilities of the components in the mixture. This method is a form of distillation, specifically utilizing steam as a stripping agent.
