Gödsla

Gödsla is the Swedish term for fertilizing, the practice of supplying nutrients to soil or growing medium to promote plant growth and increase crop yields. Fertilization can involve organic materials such as manure, slurry, compost, and green manures, or inorganic minerals that contain primary nutrients.

Organisk gödsel refers to natural materials that add organic matter and nutrients, often improving soil structure. Mineralgödsel, or mineral fertilizer, consists of synthetically produced or mined compounds that supply nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K) and other elements. Growers may also use slow-release forms or foliar fertilizers as needed.

Gödsel is applied by various methods: broadcasting over fields, placing fertilizer in bands near seeds or roots, injecting into soil, or delivering with irrigation (fertigation). Timing is important; many crops receive nutrients in multiple applications aligned with growth stages to reduce losses and environmental impact.
