Absorption refers to the movement of a drug from its site of administration into the bloodstream. Distribution involves the movement of the drug from the bloodstream to various tissues and organs, where it exerts its therapeutic effect. The extent and rate of distribution depend on the drug's lipid solubility and protein binding.

Metabolism, also known as biotransformation, is the process by which the body converts a drug into one or more metabolites. This phase is primarily carried out by the liver, with enzymes such as cytochrome P450 playing a key role. Metabolism can either activate or deactivate a drug, affecting its therapeutic and toxicological properties. Excretion is the final phase, where the drug and its metabolites are eliminated from the body through various routes, including urine, feces, and exhaled air.

Pharmacokinetic parameters, such as half-life, clearance, volume of distribution, and bioavailability, are used to describe and predict a drug's behavior in the body. These parameters help in designing clinical trials, optimizing drug therapy, and monitoring patients' responses to treatment. Advances in pharmacokinetics have led to the development of personalized medicine, where treatments are tailored to an individual's unique pharmacokinetic profile.
