Gyártelepek, a Hungarian term, translates to "factory settlements" or "industrial estates." Historically, these were areas specifically designated for the establishment of factories and related industrial infrastructure. They often emerged during periods of rapid industrialization, particularly in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The development of gyártelepek was driven by a need to consolidate industrial activities, providing access to resources, labor, and transportation networks. These settlements were typically located on the outskirts of cities or in areas with favorable geographical conditions for manufacturing, such as proximity to railways, rivers, or raw material sources.
