Gyroskoobes

Gyroskoobes are fictional energy-based organisms that appear in the animated television series Futurama. They are depicted as gelatinous, amorphous beings that subsist on ambient energy. Their name is a portmanteau of "gyroscope," referencing their often spherical or swirling appearance, and "koobe," a nonsensical suffix common in the show's universe. Gyroskoobes are generally portrayed as harmless and even beneficial, as they can absorb excess electrical energy, preventing surges and stabilizing power grids. However, in large numbers, they can become a nuisance or a minor threat, consuming too much energy and causing blackouts.

The first appearance of Gyroskoobes was in the episode "The Problem with Popplers," where they were encountered by the Planet Express crew. They are known for their ability to communicate through telepathic pulses, though these are typically simple expressions of their energy needs or contentment. Their physical form is fluid and can change shape, often resembling glowing blobs or ethereal clouds. While not possessing complex intelligence, they exhibit a collective consciousness and react to environmental stimuli. In later episodes, they are sometimes used as a plot device to highlight the abundance or scarcity of energy in the Futurama universe.
