Gyresystemer

Gyresystemer, also known as gyres, are large systems of rotating ocean currents. They are primarily driven by global wind patterns, specifically the trade winds and westerlies, and are characterized by their circular or spiral motion. Gyres are found in all the major oceans of the world, including the North Atlantic Gyre, South Atlantic Gyre, North Pacific Gyre, South Pacific Gyre, Indian Ocean Gyre, and Southern Ocean Gyre.

The formation of gyres is influenced by the Coriolis effect, which is the apparent deflection of moving objects due to the Earth's rotation. This effect causes the water in the ocean to move in a circular pattern, with the direction of rotation determined by the hemisphere in which the gyre is located. In the Northern Hemisphere, gyres rotate clockwise, while in the Southern Hemisphere, they rotate counterclockwise.

Gyres play a crucial role in the global ocean circulation and climate system. They help to distribute heat and nutrients throughout the world's oceans, influencing marine ecosystems and weather patterns. Additionally, gyres can act as natural barriers, trapping debris and pollutants, which can accumulate in the center of the gyre, forming what are known as "garbage patches."
