Gutschreibt

Gutschreibt is the third-person singular present tense form of the German verb gutschreiben, meaning to issue a credit or to credit an account. In accounting and commercial practice, the term describes the action of recording a credit to a customer’s balance, typically by issuing a credit note (Gutschrift).

In practice, gutschreiben is used when a supplier or payer corrects an overcharge, processes a refund for returned goods, grants a discount after a complaint, or otherwise reduces amounts owed. The resulting document is a Gutschrift, which serves as documentation of the credited amount and may affect VAT, revenues, and receivables. Gutschreiben is the counterpart to belasten (to debit or charge) in financial postings and reconciliation.
