Gulfport

Gulfport is a city in Harrison County, Mississippi, United States, located on the Gulf of Mexico. It is part of the Gulfport-Biloxi metropolitan area on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The city sits along the shore and includes portions of the Back Bay, with neighborhoods ranging from coastal residential areas to inland commercial districts. Gulfport is served by the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport and the Port of Gulfport, which handle air and water transportation for the region.

Gulfport grew as a regional hub for shipping, lumber, and fishing in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and it was incorporated as a municipality in the early 20th century. The city has since developed into a tourist and service-oriented economy, supported by hotels, restaurants, retail, and maritime-related industries. The economy and infrastructure were heavily rebuilt after extensive damage from Hurricane Katrina in 2005, with many waterfront properties and public facilities rebuilt in subsequent years.

As of the 2020 census, Gulfport's population is in the tens of thousands, making it one of the larger cities in the state. The Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College maintains a Gulfport campus, and the city hosts cultural events, museums, and parks that serve residents and visitors. Gulfport should not be confused with Gulfport, Florida, another city on the Gulf of Mexico.
