Guiyangs

Guiyangs are the residents and associated context of Guiyang, the capital city of Guizhou Province in southwest China. As the province’s administrative, economic, and cultural center, Guiyang has grown rapidly in recent decades and serves as a hub for government, education, and industry in the region.

Geography and people: Guiyang sits in a basin on the eastern edge of the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau, at about 1,000 meters above sea level and surrounded by hills. The climate is a humid subtropical highland pattern, with mild winters and warm summers. The population is diverse, including Han Chinese and multiple minority groups such as Miao, Buyei, Dong, and Yi.

Economy and infrastructure: The urban economy emphasizes services, information technology, and data-related industries. Guiyang hosts the Guiyang International Big Data Expo and is part of national initiatives to develop a digital economy and a Big Data sector. The city is served by Longdongbao International Airport and has expanding rail connections, including high-speed lines linking to major Chinese cities.

Culture and education: Guiyangs reflect a mix of ethnic traditions, culinary styles, and urban culture. Guizhou cuisine is known for sour and spicy flavors, and local markets, festivals, and crafts contribute to the city’s cultural landscape. Higher education institutions include Guizhou University and Guizhou Medical University, along with several other universities and research centers that support regional development.
