Guarulhos

Guarulhos is a municipality in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Located in the eastern part of the São Paulo metropolitan region, it is one of the most populous municipalities in the country. The city covers about 174 square kilometers and has a population exceeding 1.3 million people.

Its economy is diversified, with manufacturing, services, and logistics sectors. The São Paulo–Guarulhos International Airport, located within its borders, is Brazil's busiest airport and one of the largest in Latin America, serving as a major international gateway and regional logistics hub. The airport anchors employment and commerce and shapes urban development in the municipality.

Guarulhos began as a 16th-century settlement established by Jesuit missionaries and developed slowly as agricultural and trade activities expanded. The municipality grew significantly in the 20th century with industrialization and the expansion of air and road transport, eventually becoming part of the greater São Paulo urban area.

It contains urban parks and cultural institutions, and serves as a regional service center for residents of eastern Greater São Paulo. The city is characterized by a mix of residential neighborhoods, commercial districts, and industrial zones.
