Größenkennwerten, often translated as "magnitude indicators" or "size characteristics," are statistical measures used to describe the central tendency or typical value of a dataset. They provide a single numerical value that represents the center of the distribution of the data. The most common Größenkennwerten are the mean, median, and mode.

The mean, or arithmetic average, is calculated by summing all the values in a dataset and dividing by the number of values. It is sensitive to outliers, meaning extreme values can significantly influence the mean. The median, on the other hand, is the middle value of a dataset when it is ordered from least to greatest. If there is an even number of values, the median is the average of the two middle values. The median is less affected by outliers than the mean. The mode is the value that appears most frequently in a dataset. A dataset can have one mode (unimodal), multiple modes (multimodal), or no mode if all values appear with the same frequency.

For skewed data or data with outliers, the median may be more appropriate. The mode is useful for categorical data or when identifying the most common occurrence is important.
