Gravd

Gravd is a fictional coastal city-state located on the Cael Strait in the continent of Eldara. It is presented as a commercial and technological hub, with a natural harbor that supports a busy port. The city covers about 65 square kilometers and comprises the historic Old Quarter and the modern Innovation District. The population is estimated at around 260,000 residents.

Origins date to medieval times when merchant guilds established a free port that attracted traders across the Strait. Gravd gained a degree of autonomy and, by charter, established a constitutional framework with a representative council. Subsequent reforms in the 18th to 20th centuries promoted industrial diversification and public education.

Economy: The port handles container traffic and bulk goods, while Gravd hosts shipyards, electronics and robotics firms, and a biomedical research cluster. The city also functions as a regional financial center with cooperative banks and venture funds. Public investment targets sustainable energy and urban mobility.

Government: Gravd is governed by a Council of Representatives, elected every four years, and led by an independently elected Mayor. The legal system is civil law-based with an independent judiciary. The municipal administration emphasizes transparency, urban sustainability, and innovation policy.

Culture and education: Gravd houses the University of Gravd, with faculties in engineering, life sciences, and humanities. Cultural life centers on the Maritime Festival and the Digital Arts Biennale. Gravdian is the primary language, with Eldaran widely used in administration and commerce.
