Gomeisa

Gomeisa, formally designated Beta Canis Minoris, is a star in the southern constellation Canis Minor. The traditional name Gomeisa is used for this star in several star catalogues. It is a hot, blue-white star of spectral type B8V (some sources list B9V) and belongs to the main sequence. The star’s effective temperature is typically cited around 11,000 to 12,000 kelvin, and its apparent visual magnitude is about 3.1, making it visible to the naked eye from dark-sky locations.

Gomeisa lies at a distance of roughly 250 light-years from Earth, placing it a few hundred light-years away within the Canis Minor region of the sky. The star is one of the brighter members of Canis Minor, a constellation that also contains Procyon, the system’s brightest star.

In astronomical reference works, Gomeisa is indexed under the Bayer designation Beta Canis Minoris. It is generally treated as a single star in modern observations, with no widely confirmed exoplanets or close stellar companions reported.
