Globines

Globines are a hypothetical class of nano-scale, globular molecules proposed in speculative discussions about biomimicry and molecular self-assembly. The term does not correspond to established chemical nomenclature and is not widely used in peer-reviewed literature; in many works it appears as a thought experiment or fictional construct.

Conceptually, globines are described as compact, roughly spherical assemblies with hydrophobic cores and diverse surface functionalities that enable selective binding to target molecules. They are often depicted as 1.5 to 4 nanometers in diameter, though sizes vary in different models. The design emphasizes modularity, allowing different surface groups to tune affinity, catalytic activity, or signaling.

In hypothetical synthesis, globines are depicted as arising from self-assembly of amphiphilic precursors, or from templated polymerization and metal-coordination chemistry. Models typically assume high stability in aqueous environments and resilience to thermal fluctuations.

Proposed applications in speculative contexts include targeted drug delivery, catalytic nanoreactors, or components of nanoscale materials that mimic cellular bodies. Because globines are not established in real chemistry or biology, any real-world use remains purely fictional or theoretical.
