GlBindFramebuffer

glBindFramebuffer is an OpenGL function that binds a framebuffer object (FBO) to a framebuffer target. The binding determines where subsequent rendering operations will write color, depth, and stencil data and from which they may read during operations that involve reading from a framebuffer.

The function signature is void glBindFramebuffer(GLenum target, GLuint framebuffer). The target can be GL_FRAMEBUFFER, GL_DRAW_FRAMEBUFFER, or GL_READ_FRAMEBUFFER. If target is GL_FRAMEBUFFER, the bound FBO is used for both drawing and reading. If target is GL_DRAW_FRAMEBUFFER, the binding affects only draw operations; if target is GL_READ_FRAMEBUFFER, it affects only read operations.

The framebuffer parameter is the name of a framebuffer object previously generated with glGenFramebuffers, or 0 to bind the default framebuffer provided by the window system. Binding to 0 switches rendering back to the default framebuffer. You may bind different FBOs for drawing and reading by using GL_DRAW_FRAMEBUFFER and GL_READ_FRAMEBUFFER separately.

After binding, attachments such as color textures or renderbuffers can be attached to the currently bound FBO using functions like glFramebufferTexture2D or glFramebufferRenderbuffer, and the set of active draw buffers can be configured with glDrawBuffers. Binding itself does not guarantee completeness; you should verify completeness with glCheckFramebufferStatus before rendering to an FBO.

Error handling includes GL_INVALID_ENUM if the target is not one of the allowed values, and GL_INVALID_OPERATION if the framebuffer name does not refer to a valid framebuffer object (or if zero is used in contexts where a non-default binding is required). For more robust rendering, bind, attach, check status, and then proceed with drawing or reading as needed.
