Gjaldþrotalög is a medieval Icelandic legal code that addressed the regulation of debt, lien, and the rights of creditors and debtors in the sagafólk and later feudal societies. The laws were promulgated during the 13th century, a period marked by increasing economic interdependence and the need to formalise responsibilities over property and agricultural produce.
