Giridih

Giridih is a city located in the state of Jharkhand, India. It is situated in the northeastern part of the state, approximately 100 kilometers south of Deoghar and 70 kilometers east of Hazaribagh. The city is the administrative headquarters of the Giridih district.

Historically, the region was part of the Manbhum district. Giridih gained prominence due to its rich mineral resources, particularly mica. It was once a major center for mica mining, earning it the nickname "Mica Capital of India." However, the decline of the mica industry has impacted the local economy.

The city is known for its natural beauty and religious significance. Parasnath Hill, a sacred site for Jains, is located near Giridih and is a major pilgrimage destination. The hill is believed to be the place where the first Tirthankara, Lord Rishabhanatha, attained moksha. Other natural attractions include Usri Falls and Khandoli Dam, which are popular picnic spots.

Giridih has a diverse population and a predominantly agrarian economy, though industries related to mining and processing of minerals still exist. The city is well-connected by road and rail. The nearest airport is Deoghar Airport, which provides air connectivity. Giridih experiences a tropical savanna climate, with distinct summer, monsoon, and winter seasons.
