Gipssankare

Gipssankare is a Swedish term that translates to "plaster anchor" or "drywall anchor" in English. It refers to a type of fastener designed to allow for the secure mounting of objects to walls constructed from plasterboard or drywall. These anchors are essential because drywall itself is not strong enough to support the weight of many items, such as shelves, pictures, cabinets, or light fixtures, when directly screwed into it.

There are several common types of gipssankare. Some are simple plastic sleeves that are inserted into a pre-drilled hole. When a screw is tightened, the sleeve expands, creating a secure grip against the back of the drywall. Others are self-drilling, meaning they can be screwed directly into the drywall without the need for a pilot hole. These often have a wider flange that sits flush with the wall surface. More robust versions, sometimes referred to as toggle bolts or molly bolts, utilize a metal wing or expansion mechanism that opens up behind the drywall for significantly increased load-bearing capacity.

The selection of the appropriate gipssankare depends on the weight of the item to be mounted and the type of drywall. Manufacturers typically provide weight limit recommendations for their products. Improper use or selection can lead to the anchor failing, potentially causing damage to the wall and the mounted object.
