Gießkerne
Gießkerne, also known as cores in English casting terminology, are essential components used in the sand casting process to create internal cavities or hollow spaces within a cast part. They are typically made from a sand mixture, similar to the molding sand, but with added binders that allow them to withstand the high temperatures and pressures of molten metal during the casting pour. The core is placed within the mold cavity before the metal is introduced. When the metal solidifies, the core remains embedded within the casting. After the casting has cooled sufficiently, the core material is removed, typically by vibration, hammering, or by dissolving certain types of binders, leaving the desired internal void.
The design and composition of a Gießkern are critical for the success of the casting. Factors such
