Gietranden
Gietranden, often translated as casting edges or pouring sprues, are a common feature in the process of casting materials like metal, plastic, or plaster. They are essentially the excess material that solidifies in the pouring gate and runner system of a mold after the main casting has been formed. When molten material is poured into a mold, it flows through channels called gates and runners to fill the cavity. A sprue is the main channel through which the material is initially introduced. Once the mold is filled and the material cools and solidifies, the sprue, gates, and runners become attached to the desired casting as a solid mass.
The presence of gietranden is a natural consequence of this manufacturing method. After the casting process
