Geschlechterangehörigkeit

Geschlechterangehörigkeit refers to an individual's internal sense of being male, female, both, neither, or somewhere else along the gender spectrum. It is a deeply personal experience and is distinct from biological sex assigned at birth. While biological sex is typically determined by chromosomes, hormones, and anatomy, gender identity is a psychological construct.

People may identify with a gender that aligns with the sex they were assigned at birth, in which case they are considered cisgender. Conversely, individuals whose gender identity differs from their sex assigned at birth are transgender. The term transgender is an umbrella term encompassing many gender identities.

Gender identity is not static for everyone and can evolve over time. Some individuals identify as non-binary, meaning their gender identity does not exclusively fall into the categories of male or female. This can include identifying as agender (without gender), bigender (with two genders), or genderfluid (gender identity shifts over time).
