Geotekstiils

Geotekstiils is a permeable fabric used in civil engineering and construction projects. It is typically made from synthetic materials such as polyester or polypropylene, available in woven or nonwoven forms. Geotekstiils serve several key functions, including separation, filtration, reinforcement, drainage, and protection.

In separation applications, geotekstiils prevent the intermixing of different soil layers, such as subgrade and aggregate. This maintains the structural integrity of the layers and prevents contamination. As a filter, it allows water to pass through while preventing fine soil particles from being carried away, thus preventing clogging of drainage systems.

Geotekstiils can also be used for reinforcement, increasing the tensile strength of soil masses in applications like retaining walls or embankments. This improves stability and load-bearing capacity. In drainage, their permeability facilitates the movement of water, relieving hydrostatic pressure and preventing saturation. Finally, geotekstiils can act as a protective layer, for instance, safeguarding geomembranes from puncture in landfill liners or ponds.

The selection of geotekstiils depends on the specific project requirements, including the type of soil, anticipated loads, and environmental conditions. They are widely used in road construction, railway engineering, slope stabilization, coastal protection, and landfill construction, contributing to the longevity and performance of infrastructure.
