Gehirnstamms
Gehirnstamms, also known as the brainstem, is the posterior part of the brain, continuous with the spinal cord. It consists of three parts: the midbrain, the pons, and the medulla oblongata. The brainstem serves as a relay center connecting the cerebrum and cerebellum to the spinal cord. It plays a vital role in regulating essential life functions such as breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, sleep-wake cycles, and consciousness. Numerous cranial nerves originate from the brainstem, controlling sensory and motor functions of the head and neck. Damage to the brainstem can have severe consequences, often leading to significant neurological deficits or even death due to its critical role in maintaining vital bodily processes. The brainstem's intricate network of neurons allows for the transmission of information between different parts of the brain and the rest of the body, making it indispensable for survival.
