Gehörtests

Gehörtests, also known as audiometric tests, are a series of evaluations used to determine a person's hearing ability. These tests are crucial for identifying hearing loss, understanding its type and severity, and guiding appropriate management or treatment. They can be performed by audiologists, otolaryngologists (ENT doctors), or other trained healthcare professionals.

The most common type of hearing test is pure-tone audiometry. This test measures the softest sounds a person can hear at different frequencies. The results are plotted on an audiogram, which graphically represents hearing thresholds. Another important test is speech audiometry, which assesses a person's ability to understand spoken words at various loudness levels. Tympanometry is also frequently used; it measures the eardrum's movement and the middle ear's condition, helping to diagnose problems like fluid in the ear or eardrum perforations.

Hearing tests are recommended for individuals experiencing difficulty hearing, those with a family history of hearing loss, or as part of routine health screenings, especially for infants and older adults. Early detection and intervention are vital for maximizing the benefits of hearing aids, cochlear implants, or other auditory rehabilitation strategies, thereby improving communication and overall quality of life.
