Gasresurser refers to naturally occurring deposits of gaseous hydrocarbons, primarily methane, found underground. These deposits are a significant source of energy worldwide and are extracted through drilling operations. Natural gas is a fossil fuel formed over millions of years from the remains of ancient organic matter subjected to heat and pressure. Its composition is predominantly methane, but it can also contain varying amounts of ethane, propane, butane, and heavier hydrocarbons, as well as non-hydrocarbon gases like nitrogen, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen sulfide.

The exploration and extraction of gasresurser involve complex geological surveys to identify potential reservoirs, followed by drilling wells to access the gas. Once extracted, the raw natural gas often undergoes processing to remove impurities and separate valuable components. This processed gas is then transported via pipelines or liquefied into Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for transport by ships, enabling global trade.
