Garudasevar

Garudaseva is a significant annual festival celebrated in various Vishnu temples across South India, particularly in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The central element of the festival is the ceremonial procession of the deity Lord Vishnu, who is believed to be represented by his vahana, Garuda. Garuda, the divine eagle-like creature, is considered Vishnu's mount and messenger.

The festival typically takes place during the Hindu month of Karthigai or Margazhi, which corresponds to November-December or December-January. The main event involves the idol of Lord Vishnu being placed on a specially decorated chariot or palanquin, which is then carried in a grand procession through the temple premises and sometimes through the surrounding town or village. This procession symbolizes Garuda carrying Lord Vishnu to bless his devotees.

Elaborate decorations adorn the idol and the chariot, often featuring flowers, garlands, and traditional motifs. Devotees gather in large numbers to witness the procession, singing hymns, chanting mantras, and offering prayers. The atmosphere is charged with religious fervor and communal celebration. Special rituals and pujas are performed before and after the procession. Garudaseva is considered an auspicious occasion, believed to bestow blessings of prosperity, health, and protection upon the participants and onlookers.
