Ganthos

Ganthos is a fictional planet featured in the science fiction novel "The Serpent's Eye" by A.J. Mason. The planet is characterized by its unique geological formations and a hostile environment. Its surface is dominated by jagged, crystalline mountains that rise thousands of feet into a perpetually twilight sky. The atmosphere is thin and rich in exotic gases, making it difficult for most known life forms to survive without specialized equipment.

The native flora of Ganthos is sparse and adapted to the harsh conditions. It consists primarily of bioluminescent fungi that cling to the shadowed sides of the crystalline structures, providing the only significant source of light on the planet. The fauna is equally resilient, with creatures that have developed hardened exoskeletons and efficient respiratory systems to cope with the atmospheric composition and temperature extremes.

Ganthos is also known for its rich mineral deposits, particularly a rare element referred to as "lumina," which is highly sought after for its energy-conducting properties. This has made the planet a target for off-world mining operations, often leading to conflict with the few indigenous sentient species that inhabit the planet's deep cavern systems. These beings, known as the Kryll, are rarely seen and are believed to be highly territorial. The exploration of Ganthos is fraught with peril, both from the environment and its inhabitants.
