GPSsignaal

GPSsignaal refers to the radio waves transmitted by Global Positioning System satellites. These signals are used by GPS receivers to determine a user's precise location on Earth. The system relies on a constellation of at least 24 satellites orbiting the planet. Each satellite continuously broadcasts its orbital data and a precise time signal.

A GPS receiver on the ground picks up signals from multiple satellites, typically at least four. By measuring the time it takes for these signals to arrive, the receiver can calculate the distance to each satellite. This process, known as trilateration, allows the receiver to pinpoint its position in three dimensions: latitude, longitude, and altitude. The accuracy of a GPS signal can be affected by various factors, including atmospheric conditions, obstructions like buildings and trees, and the quality of the receiver itself. Enhanced versions of GPS, such as the U.S. Differential GPS (DGPS) or European EGNOS, use ground-based stations to correct for errors and improve accuracy further. GPS technology is widely used in navigation for vehicles, aircraft, and personal devices, as well as in surveying, mapping, and scientific research.
