GIDC

GIDC stands for Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation, a government-owned corporation under the Department of Industries, Government of Gujarat. It promotes industrial development by creating and managing industrial infrastructure and by providing land and facilities to investors.

Established in 1962 under the Gujarat Industrial Development Act, GIDC was formed to accelerate manufacturing growth and the expansion of ancillary industries by creating planned industrial estates and a supportive regulatory environment.

GIDC acquires land, lays out estates, and builds core infrastructure such as roads, drainage, water supply, and power connections. It leases or sells plots and built-up sheds to entrepreneurs, and coordinates with utilities and state agencies to facilitate project clearance and smooth operation.

The corporation is governed by a board reporting to the state government, with a managing director and other directors drawn from public service and industry. Its activities are funded and supervised by the Industries Department, and it operates through multiple regional offices across Gujarat.

GIDC estates are spread across the state and have supported growth in core sectors including chemicals, pharmaceuticals, engineering, textiles, and consumer industries. The agency continues to play a central role in land allotment, industrial policy implementation, and investment promotion, while facing ongoing challenges such as land-related disputes and the need to upgrade infrastructure and governance.
