GHnivåerna refers to the levels of growth hormone (GH) in the body. Growth hormone, also known as somatotropin, is a peptide hormone produced by the anterior pituitary gland. Abnormal GH levels can lead to various health conditions. GH deficiency in children can result in dwarfism, characterized by significantly stunted growth. In adults, GH deficiency can lead to increased body fat, decreased muscle mass, fatigue, and emotional difficulties. Conversely, excessive GH production can cause gigantism in children, leading to abnormally tall stature, and acromegaly in adults, characterized by the enlargement of hands, feet, and facial features. These conditions are typically caused by pituitary tumors. Diagnosis and management of GH level abnormalities involve specialized medical evaluation and treatment.
