Gériatres

Gériatrie is the medical specialty dedicated to the health and care of elderly people. A gériatre, or geriatrician, is a physician who specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases and conditions that affect older adults. This field recognizes that aging is a complex process, and its associated health challenges often differ from those seen in younger populations. Gériatres focus on maintaining the functional ability and quality of life for their patients, addressing multiple health issues that may coexist, a condition known as comorbidity.

The practice of gériatrie often involves a comprehensive geriatric assessment, which evaluates not only physical health but also cognitive function, mental health, social support, and functional independence.
