Fénye

Fénye is a fictional city and administrative unit in the northern coastal region of the archipelago nation of Valoria. The name derives from the local term fénye, meaning "light," and is tied to the city's history as a lighthouse and beacon for seafarers.

Situated along the Fény River and the western coastline, Fénye covers about 80 square kilometers. The terrain includes a low-lying harbor district and wooded hills to the east. The climate is temperate maritime, with mild winters and cool summers.

Founded in the 12th century by fishermen and merchants, the city expanded around the harbor and a prominent lighthouse completed in the 14th century. It remained a regional trading hub through the early modern period, adapting to industrialization in the 19th and 20th centuries.

As of the latest estimates, the city proper has around 125,000 residents, with a metropolitan area of about 210,000. Fénye is governed by a municipal council and a mayor, and it forms part of the Valorian Regional Prefecture.

The economy is diversified, combining services, light manufacturing in optics and solar technologies, and port-related activities. The city sustains a cultural calendar centered on the annual Light Festival, featuring publicly funded installations and performances.

Educational institutions include the state-run Fénye University, established in 1883, with programs in physics, engineering, and urban planning. Transportation includes a light-rail line, regional bus network, and a ferry service to neighboring islands.

Notable landmarks include the Lumen Gate, Solstice Bridge, and the historic Fénye Lighthouse, as well as a preserved Old Quarter with early modernist architecture.
