FushëKrujë

FushëKrujë is a town and former municipality located in Tirana County in northern Albania. In the 2015 local government reform it was incorporated into the larger municipality of Krujë, where it serves as a subdivision and administrative unit. The settlement lies to the east of Tirana, approximately ten kilometres from the capital, and is situated in a low-lying plain that is part of the larger Krujë basin.

According to the 2011 Albanian census, the population of FushëKrujë was 7,462 residents. The community is largely composed of people of Albanian ethnicity, with a small minority of Roma inhabitants. The area is primarily agricultural, with local farms producing cereals, olives, and various horticultural products. Small-scale commercial activity also exists, centred around markets that supply fresh produce to nearby towns.

Historically, FushëKrujë has functioned as a satellite village for the ancient town of Krujë, which is famed for its medieval castle and role in the Albanian resistance against the Ottoman Empire. Proximity to Krujë has influenced FushëKrujë’s development over the centuries, especially during the Ottoman administration when the region served as a crossroads for trade routes linking the interior of Albania with the Adriatic coast.

Today, the town retains several traditional Albanian architectural features and offers limited public infrastructure, including a primary school, a health clinic, and community gathering spaces. The local economy continues to depend on agriculture and growing small businesses that appeal to residents of both FushëKrujë and the surrounding areas.
