Fugtkontrol

Fugtkontrol, or moisture control, refers to the set of practices and technologies used to manage humidity and moisture in built environments and materials. Its purpose is to prevent moisture-related damage such as condensation, mold growth, wood rot, corrosion, and deterioration of construction assemblies. The concept encompasses both preventing excess moisture and maintaining adequate humidity levels for occupant comfort and material stability.

Key approaches include designing the building envelope to limit moisture ingress, installing vapor barriers and proper insulation, and implementing ventilation strategies that control air exchange and humidity. Active systems such as dehumidifiers, humidifiers, and heat recovery ventilation are used where passive methods are insufficient. Drainage, waterproofing, and proper grading reduce groundwater and surface moisture entering a structure. Regular air sealing and moisture monitoring help maintain stable conditions over time.

Moisture control relies on measurement of relative humidity, dew point, and moisture content in materials. Sensors, data loggers, and periodic inspections guide adjustments and maintenance. Standards from international and national bodies, as well as local building codes, provide targets and testing methods for indoor humidity ranges, condensation risks, and envelope performance.

Fugtkontrol is critical in housing, commercial buildings, archives, museums, and data centers where uncontrolled moisture can damage sensitive materials or compromise health and energy efficiency. It also plays a role in food processing, pharmaceuticals, and electronics where precise humidity control affects product quality.
