Ftalosyaniiniväriaineet, often referred to as phthalocyanines, are a class of synthetic organic compounds known for their vibrant and stable blue and green colors. Their chemical structure is characterized by a large macrocyclic ring system containing four isoindole units coordinated to a central metal atom. This metal atom can be copper, nickel, cobalt, iron, or other elements, which influences the specific shade and properties of the resulting pigment.

The synthesis of phthalocyanine pigments typically involves the reaction of phthalonitrile or phthalic anhydride derivatives with a metal salt at high temperatures, often in the presence of a catalyst. These pigments are highly insoluble in common solvents, making them excellent candidates for applications requiring durability and resistance to fading.

Phthalocyanine pigments find widespread use in various industries. They are commonly employed in printing inks, paints, plastics, textiles, and coatings due to their exceptional lightfastness, heat stability, and chemical resistance. The most well-known examples are Copper Phthalocyanine Blue (Pigment Blue 15) and Copper Phthalocyanine Green (Pigment Green 7 and Pigment Green 36), which are among the most widely used organic pigments globally.
