Ftalosyaanivärit

Ftalosyaanivärit is a Finnish term referring to phthalocyanine pigments. These are synthetic organic pigments renowned for their brilliant blue and green hues, excellent lightfastness, and thermal stability. The most common form is phthalocyanine blue, often denoted as Pigment Blue 15. Phthalocyanine green, Pigment Green 7 or 36, is derived from the blue pigment through halogenation.

The discovery of phthalocyanine dates back to the early 20th century, with the first commercial production emerging in the 1930s. Their molecular structure, featuring a central metal atom (typically copper) surrounded by four isoindole units linked by nitrogen atoms, is responsible for their intense coloration and chemical stability.

Ftalosyaanivärit are widely used across various industries. They are found in paints, inks, plastics, textiles, and even in some electronic applications. Their resistance to fading, heat, and chemicals makes them a durable choice for long-lasting applications. Due to their synthetic nature and broad spectrum of stable colors, they have largely replaced many older, less stable inorganic pigments. The specific shade and properties can be modified by altering the central metal atom or through different crystalline forms.
