Frugtgjødning

Frugtgjødning is a Danish term that translates to "fruit fertilization" and refers to the natural process by which plants develop fruits. This process begins after pollination, where pollen grains reach the ovule within the flower. Once pollination is successful, the pollen tube grows, delivering male gametes to the ovule, leading to fertilization.

Following fertilization, the ovary of the flower typically develops into the fruit, and the ovules within the ovary develop into seeds. Various parts of the flower can contribute to the fruit's structure. For example, in some fruits, like apples and pears, the receptacle (the part of the flower stalk to which the parts of the flower are attached) swells and forms the fleshy part of the fruit, making them accessory fruits. In other cases, the fruit develops solely from the ovary, as seen in berries and drupes.

The development of the fruit is influenced by hormones produced by the developing seeds. These hormones signal the ovary to grow and mature. Factors such as adequate water, nutrients, and suitable temperatures play a crucial role in ensuring successful fruit development and yield.
