Frequenzabhängigkeit refers to the phenomenon where the properties or behavior of a system, component, or signal change with variations in frequency. This is a fundamental concept encountered across various scientific and engineering disciplines.

In electronics, frequency dependence is observed in components like capacitors and inductors, whose impedance varies with the frequency of the applied signal. This behavior is exploited in filters, which are designed to allow or block signals within specific frequency ranges. Amplifiers also exhibit frequency-dependent gain, meaning their ability to amplify a signal can differ significantly at different frequencies, leading to the concept of bandwidth.

In acoustics, the perception of loudness and pitch is inherently frequency-dependent. The human ear is more sensitive to certain frequencies than others. Sound propagation itself can also be frequency-dependent, with higher frequencies often attenuating more rapidly than lower frequencies in a medium.

In optics, the refractive index of a material can vary with the wavelength, and thus frequency, of light. This phenomenon, known as dispersion, causes white light to split into its constituent colors when passing through a prism.

Signal processing heavily relies on understanding frequency dependence. Fourier analysis, for example, decomposes complex signals into their individual frequency components, allowing for analysis and manipulation based on their spectral content.
