Frekvensomfången

Frekvensomfånget, often translated as frequency response, is a measure of how a system reproduces signals of different frequencies. In audio engineering, it describes the range of audible sound frequencies that a device, such as a speaker, microphone, or amplifier, can effectively reproduce or capture. This range is typically expressed in Hertz (Hz), with lower numbers representing lower frequencies (bass) and higher numbers representing higher frequencies (treble). A wider frequency range generally indicates a more accurate and complete reproduction of sound.

For audio equipment, a common specification is the frequency response curve, which graphically illustrates the device's output level across the audible spectrum. An ideal flat frequency response would mean that all frequencies within the specified range are reproduced at the same volume. Deviations from this flatness indicate where certain frequencies are either boosted or attenuated. For example, a speaker with a "peaky" response might emphasize certain mid-range frequencies, leading to a less natural sound.

Beyond audio, the concept of frequency response is also applicable in fields like radio communication, where it describes the range of radio frequencies a transmitter or receiver can handle. In optics, it can refer to the range of light frequencies a material transmits or reflects.
